Magazine Double Page Spread

I have drawn what I want my magazine cover to look like. The magazine is called 'valor' which means bravery and courage and it links in with my magazine and the pop genre of my magazine because singers sing about their past experiences and pop music is about being brave enough and to have the courage to come out and have a unique style. The cover image is going to be a female model and the cover image is going to be covering most of the mast head, more focus will be on the cover image's head and shoulders rather than the whole body; this is because when I was doing research of pop magazine's most magazines focused on the head and shoulders rather than all of the body. The colours of the magazine are going to be gold and black, I chose these colours because they stand out and the colours also go well together as well. 

On my magazine there is going to be a kicker, to make my kicker stand out from the rest of the magazine it is going to be bolder and bigger than the strap lines. The kicker is going to be 'princess of pop' and then there is going to be some writing underneath and the kicker is going to be bold and big and it is going to stand out from the rest of the magazine. The kicker contains alliteration with 'princess' and 'pop' this will make the kicker stand out more and it will also be interesting for the audience to read. The strap lines of the magazine are going to be small and they are going to be gold; the strap lines are going to be about some of the stories in the magazine to draw the reader in. I did not include lots of strap lines because I did not want my magazine to be crowded and over the top, I wanted my magazine to be simple but not too simple so it looks like a real magazine. Some of the strap lines include 'chart heat' and 'brit singers going worldwide' these are issues that people are interested in at the moment and they are also up to date issues as well as I found from my research, I have used slang in my strap lines, for example 'brit' this is because most magazine covers contain slang so teenagers will understand it and relate to it as well. I have also included a barcode and the issue date and number which all magazines have; these are some of the things that will make my magazine look real.

The magazine contents page is going to be simple yet it will look realistic. This is because my magazine contents page will contain an image of a female model faced on the side and she will be looking towards the camera. This shows that the model will have eye contact with the reader and the audience, the audience will feel comfortable reading the magazine because it shows a sense of communication between the model and the audience.

The numbers on the contents page are gold and the information and the words are black, I have used the same font as a did on the front cover of the magazine because it will look simple and realistic and in my research of magazine contents pages the font usually is the same for the cover and contents page of the magazine. I used simple words and not complicated and long words that teenagers will not understand, this is because my magazine is for 15-23 year olds and if they see long and complicated words they will not understand them and they may not read the magazine if they do not understand the language of the magazine.

The magazine double page spread of my magazine is set out in columns, this is because the double page spread will look more organized and it will look realistic like a real double page spread from a magazine. Before I started to plan my mock up double page spread I researched some existing double page spreads and I looked at some of the key features like the writing is in columns and it is usually small and black, and another key feature in magazine double spreads was a gutter. I will then include some of these features in my double page spread, for example I will include a gutter and I will put my writing in columns and I will also make sure that the writing is small and black so it looks realistic.  In most magazine double page spreads there is a quote by the artist and it is bigger than the rest of the text, so I will include the quote in my double page spread as well and I will make it stand out because I will make it bold and black and gold; so when the reader goes on this page the quote will stand out than everything else.

My double page spread is going to be an interview with an artist called 'Eva' and a series of questions are going to be asked to her and she is going to reply to them. I am going to use some slang in the double page spread, for example 'kinda' and 'ya' this is because the magazine is going to be for teenagers and most teenagers will not understand long sophisticated words and if teenagers don't understand the words they may not read the magazine; however if slang is used then they will find it more interesting to read.

On my double page spread there is going to be one big picture covering one half of the page and its going to be of a female model aged 16 years so the model is going to be young just like what I have described her to be in my writing. For my double page spread I am going to take a variety of pictures with the model posing in a variety of ways and then I am going to choose the best one.

Analysis of existing Double page spread from a magazine

The layout of this particular double page spread is quite organized and it is not too over the top and there is a main image and then there is some text about the image. The purpose of the article is so that the reader will know a bit more about the this particular band and the reader will also know more information and history of the magazine as well, but the article is mainly so that the reader will know more information on the band or a singer. The double page spread conforms to the house style of the magazine because the color scheme and the colors that are used on the front cover of the magazine are used throughout the magazine. The tittle of the article is called 'EXPOSURE' and it is bold and it is in capitals which shows that it will appeal to the reader and this particular article is getting to know this band a bit more and it is also getting behind the scenes of the band as well and it will reveal their secrets and it will attract more readers as well. And the effect that it has on the audience is that the audience will want to read this magazine even more because it is revealing secret information and exposing the band even more. The magazine also has some quotations from the band so the readers can read something coming directly from the band and it will make the readers want to read the magazines even more and it will be more tempting for them to read the magazine. On the double page spread there is a big blown up picture of the band and then there is some text and quotations about the band. The main image on the double page spread is of the band with five members and the color of the clothes that they are wearing are the same shades and the colors of the clothes also match the colors of the overall magazine as well, the same shades of colors also represent that they are a band and they are linked. The magazine seems like it is a pop magazine and the picture of the band shows depth because the band members are not lining up in a line, this is because some are behind and some are standing forward which shows more depth. And the band looks like a pop band because they are dressed like a pop band and they are not wearing street clothes because then that would not tie in with the genre of the magazine. On the magazine some alliteration has been used because before the paragraph starts it says 'the famous five', and this gives the article humour and you can think of other connotations linking in with the sentence 'the famous five'. The tone of the magazine is friendly because the magazine wants the audience and readers to feel comfortable; during the interview with the band the band are humorous and do make jokes. The magazines aimed at teenagers so many teenagers reading the magazine will get the jokes, language and slang contained in the text. The tone links in with the genre of the magazine because it is pop magazine and that most teenagers would read and teenagers would get the tone and language that is used in the magazine. The magazine uses colloquial language and slang including swears used but although this type of language is used teenagers that read this magazine will get the slang and swearing because some teenagers will swear and use slang on a daily basis. But there is not one hundred percent slang used, and most of the text is standard english.

The layout of this page is organized because there are pictures that are on one side and not just everywhere and by the pictures there is some text so that you know who the band or singer is. The text is organized and there are columns and rows so the reader will be able to read it easily. The purpose of the article is to inform the reader about the latest bands and singers so that the reader will learn more about them and they will also get know them more and the reader might also listen to their music and might even enjoy it as well. The double page spread conforms to the house style of the magazine because of the colors used, for example the colors used on the double page spread are blue, black and white. This suggests that the overall style of the magazine is going to be similar for example the color scheme, this article is pop/rock and so the magazine is also going to be pop/rock because it will make more sense to the people buying the magazine. The tittle of the article is called 'THE TEENAGERS' and so teenagers aged 16-25 are going to be interested in the magazine and article this is because the article will not appeal to people who are in their thirties, people in their thirties and fourties will not recognise and will not be interested in the article as well. The tittle of the article is written in capital letters and it is bold so that it stands out from everything else, because the tittle is going to draw the reader in so they will read it. The article also features some quotations from the band and other singers, this will make the reader more interested in the article because it is coming direct from the band and singer. The main pictures are bigger than the text because if the pictures look interesting then the text is going to be interesting as well. The pictures are more bigger then the text because most people tend to look at the pictures more than reading the text. There are various pictures on the article and the main picture is of a band with three members and the setting of the picture is in a typical teenager's bedroom because of the pictures and the style as well. The band are wearing clothes that teenagers would wear because they are cool and stylish and many adults do not tend to wear these kind of clothes. For example the band are wearing skinny jeans and leather jackets which are in style and considered 'cool' for many teenagers. The magazine and the band is of pop/rock genre and the clothes link in with that as well, because the clothes are current and so is the music. The magazine uses alliteration for example 'crystal castles' and this makes the article sound more interesting. The article also uses some humor to keep the reader entertained and interested in the magazine article, for example 'young, dumb and full of....filthytunes'. This is a subheading for a paragraph and when the reader reads the subheading they will want to read the rest of the article and paragraph as well. The tone of the magazine is humorous and it is also friendly to the reader but at times it can mock the bands and singers, and this links in with the pop/rock genre because it reflects the attitude of the teenagers who read the magazine. The magazine article uses colloquial language and standard english because the magazine is for teenagers and younger adults so it has to use language that they will understand so they will want to read and buy the magazine again.
